Hastelloy Pipe Fittings

Hastelloy Pipe Fittings

Giriraj Impex is a manufacturer, stockist, supplier and exporter of Hastelloy pipe fittings in alloys C276 (UNS N10276) and C22 (UNS N06022), with alloy B2 and other grades on request. We manufacture Hastelloy butt-weld fittings to ASTM B366 / ASME SB366 and ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-43, and forged socket weld and threaded fittings from ASTM B564 forgings to ASME B16.11, with mill test certificates.

Hastelloy pipe fittings are used in chemical, pharmaceutical, pollution-control and oil and gas piping that carries hot acids, chlorides, wet chlorine and other media too aggressive for stainless steel, duplex and most other nickel alloys.

Values for solution-annealed material as given in ASTM B575.

The mechanical values shown are those of ASTM B575 plate, from which welded fittings are made; ASTM B366 requires fittings to meet the properties of the starting material. Background on the alloys is on the Hastelloy page.

C276 or C22 fittings?

Hastelloy C276 is the most widely used Ni-Cr-Mo alloy for severe chemical service. Its high molybdenum and tungsten give outstanding resistance to reducing acids such as hydrochloric and sulphuric acid, to pitting and crevice corrosion in chlorides, and to wet chlorine and hypochlorite. Its low carbon and silicon keep welds and heat-affected zones resistant to intergranular attack.

Hastelloy C22 has higher chromium, which improves resistance to oxidising media – such as acids containing ferric or cupric ions, nitric acid mixtures and oxidising chloride solutions – while keeping good resistance to reducing conditions. It is often chosen where a process alternates between oxidising and reducing conditions, and as a universal filler and fitting alloy for mixed systems.

How we manufacture Hastelloy fittings

Seamless butt-weld fittings are formed from Hastelloy pipe; welded fittings are formed from B575 plate and welded with matching filler, with the weld radiographed as ASTM B366 requires. Elbows are formed by hot or cold mandrel bending, tees by hydraulic bulging or extrusion, and reducers by pressing. After forming, every fitting is solution annealed and quenched to restore corrosion resistance, then pickled, machined to bevel ends and inspected for dimensions to ASME B16.9. Forged fittings are machined from B564 forgings and finished to ASME B16.11. Each fitting is marked with grade, size, schedule or class and heat number.

Welding and installation

Hastelloy fittings are welded to pipe with matching filler metals – ERNiCrMo-4 for C276 and ERNiCrMo-10 for C22 – using TIG for root passes and low heat input to limit the time the weld zone spends in the sensitising range. Joints must be clean and free of sulphur, lead and other contaminants. Fittings should be stored and handled separately from carbon steel, and pickling or passivation after welding is used where the process requires a clean, oxide-free surface.

Ordering Hastelloy pipe fittings

Please give the alloy, fitting type, size, wall schedule or class, seamless or welded construction, end connection, quantity and any additional testing such as intergranular corrosion testing, positive material identification or third-party inspection. Fittings are packed in wooden boxes with bevel protection, and each is traceable to its mill test certificate.

Applications and related products

Hastelloy pipe fittings are used in chemical and pharmaceutical process piping, flue-gas desulphurisation and scrubber systems, chlorination and bleach plants, acid production and recovery, sour gas and well-fluid piping, and pollution-control equipment. Matching products include Hastelloy pipes and tubes, Hastelloy flanges, Hastelloy sheets and plates, Hastelloy round bars and Hastelloy fasteners. Fittings in other materials are on the pipe fittings page.

Frequently Asked Questions

ASTM B366 (ASME SB366) covers factory-made wrought nickel alloy fittings, including WPHC276 and WPHC22. Dimensions follow ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-43.

WPHC276 is the ASTM B366 designation for butt-weld fittings in Hastelloy C276 (UNS N10276), made from seamless pipe or welded plate.

C276 is preferred for strongly reducing acids and chlorides; C22 has more chromium for better resistance to oxidising conditions, and suits processes that alternate between the two.

Yes. After forming, Hastelloy fittings are solution annealed and quenched to restore full corrosion resistance, then pickled.

ERNiCrMo-4 filler metal is used for Hastelloy C276, and ERNiCrMo-10 for C22.

Yes. Socket weld and threaded fittings are made from ASTM B564 forgings to ASME B16.11 in Class 2000 to 9000.
