Carbon Steel Pipe Fittings
Giriraj Impex is a manufacturer, stockist, supplier and exporter of carbon steel pipe fittings. We manufacture carbon steel butt-weld fittings to ASTM A234 WPB and WPC, low-temperature fittings to ASTM A420 WPL6, high-yield pipeline fittings to MSS SP-75 WPHY 42 to 70, and forged socket weld and threaded fittings in ASTM A105 and A350 LF2, to ASME B16.9, B16.11 and MSS SP-97.
Carbon steel fittings are used with carbon steel pipe in refinery, petrochemical, power, oil and gas and utility piping, matched to the pipe in size and schedule and to its service temperature.

Grades and when to use them
- ASTM A234 WPB – the standard butt-weld fitting for carbon steel pipe such as A106 Gr B and A53 Gr B, for moderate and elevated temperatures.
- ASTM A234 WPC – higher strength, matched to A106 Gr C pipe.
- ASTM A420 WPL6 – impact-tested fittings for low-temperature service with A333 Gr 6 pipe.
- MSS SP-75 WPHY 42 to 70 – high-yield fittings for pipelines, matched to API 5L X-grade pipe.
- ASTM A105 / A350 LF2 – forged socket weld and threaded fittings and olets for ambient and low-temperature service respectively.

Fitting types
- Elbows – 45°, 90° and 180°, long and short radius.
- Tees – equal and reducing; crosses.
- Reducers – concentric and eccentric.
- Caps and stub ends.
- Forged fittings – elbows, tees, couplings, half couplings, unions, plugs, bushings, swage nipples.
- Olets – weldolet, sockolet, threadolet, nipolet, elbolet, latrolet.
Manufacturing and testing
Carbon steel butt-weld fittings are hot formed from seamless pipe or from plate, and heat treated – normalised or stress relieved – as the specification requires. Welded fittings have their welds examined as the standard requires. Ends are machined to ASME B16.25 bevels matched to the pipe wall. Each fitting is dimensionally checked and marked with the manufacturer's identification, grade, size, schedule and heat number. WPL6 fittings are impact tested at the specified temperature. Hardness testing, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliance and third-party inspection are available on request.
Ordering
Please state the fitting type, standard, size and reducing size, schedule, grade, seamless or welded construction, coating, quantity and any tests or inspection required.
Seamless and welded construction
ASTM A234 permits fittings to be made from seamless pipe, welded pipe, plate or forgings. In small and medium sizes, fittings are usually made from seamless pipe; large-diameter elbows, tees and reducers may be formed from plate and welded, with the welds radiographed and heat treated as the standard requires. Many piping specifications call for seamless fittings up to a stated size, so please give that requirement with the order.
Fitting walls should match the pipe schedule. Where a fitting joins pipes of different schedules, or a heavier fitting is used, the bevel can be counterbored or tapered to ASME B16.25 so the weld root lines up.
Applications and related products
Carbon steel pipe fittings are used in refinery and petrochemical process lines, steam and condensate, oil and gas production and pipelines, power stations, fertiliser plants, firewater and utility systems. They are installed with carbon steel seamless pipes and ERW pipes, carbon steel flanges and fasteners. We also supply carbon steel plates and round bars. See all fitting materials on the pipe fittings page and grade guidance on the carbon steel page.
Frequently Asked Questions
WPB is a grade designation in ASTM A234: W for wrought, P for pressure service and B for the grade, which corresponds in strength to Grade B pipe such as A106 Gr B.
ASTM A420 WPL6 butt-weld fittings and A350 LF2 forged fittings are used for low-temperature service. Both are impact tested at the specified temperature.
WPB fittings are for plant piping with A106 or A53 pipe. MSS SP-75 WPHY fittings are high-yield fittings for pipelines, made in grades WPHY 42 to 70 to match API 5L X-grade pipe.
Both. Smaller sizes are usually seamless, made from seamless pipe, while larger sizes may be welded from plate. Please state if your specification requires seamless fittings.
ASTM A234 sets a maximum hardness of 197 HBW for WPB. A lower limit can be specified for sour service to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 on request.
Yes. Fittings can be supplied hot-dip galvanised for water and firewater systems, or painted, varnished or oiled, as ordered.
