ASTM B366 requires fittings to meet the properties of the pipe, plate or forging they are made from. Background is on the Incoloy page.
Fittings for high-temperature 800H piping
In reformer outlet systems, transfer lines and cracking furnaces, the fittings see the same high temperatures as the pipe and must match its creep strength. Fittings in 800H or 800HT are therefore solution annealed after forming, so that they regain the coarse grain structure that cold or hot forming would otherwise disturb. Where heavy cold work is involved, the fitting standard and the design code require this re-solution treatment. Long-radius elbows are preferred in hot lines to reduce stress and flow turbulence.
Fittings for corrosive 825 piping
Incoloy 825 fittings are used in sulphuric and phosphoric acid lines, chloride-bearing process streams, seawater-cooled systems and sour gas service. Titanium stabilisation keeps the fitting and its welds resistant to intergranular corrosion. Butt-weld fittings give a smooth bore without crevices, which is preferred in chloride service; socket weld fittings are used for small-bore connections where the specification allows.
How we manufacture Incoloy fittings
Seamless butt-weld fittings are formed from Incoloy pipe, and welded fittings from B409 or B424 plate, welded with matching nickel-based filler and radiographed as ASTM B366 requires. Elbows are formed by mandrel bending, tees by hydraulic bulging or extrusion, and reducers by pressing. After forming, fittings are annealed or solution annealed as the grade requires, descaled, machined to bevel ends and inspected to ASME B16.9. Forged fittings are machined from B564 forgings to ASME B16.11. Each fitting is marked with grade, size, schedule or class and heat number.
Welding
Incoloy 800H fittings are welded with fillers designed to match its high-temperature strength, such as ERNiCr-3 or matching 800H-type consumables, as the project specification requires. Incoloy 825 fittings are commonly welded with ERNiCrMo-3, which gives a weld at least as corrosion resistant as the base metal. Joints must be clean and free of sulphur and lead.
Ordering Incoloy pipe fittings
Please give the alloy, fitting type, size, wall schedule or class, seamless or welded construction, end connection, quantity and any additional testing or inspection. Fittings are packed in wooden boxes with bevel protection and are traceable to their mill test certificates.
Applications and related products
Incoloy pipe fittings are used in hydrogen and ammonia reformers, ethylene crackers, furnace and transfer-line piping, power plant headers, acid plants, seawater-cooled systems and sour gas service. Matching products include Incoloy pipes and tubes, Incoloy flanges, Incoloy sheets and plates, Incoloy round bars and Incoloy fasteners. Fittings in other materials are on the pipe fittings page.
Frequently Asked Questions
WPNICMC is the ASTM B366 grade designation for butt-weld fittings in Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825).
WPNIC10 and WPNIC11 are the ASTM B366 designations for butt-weld fittings in Incoloy 800H (N08810) and 800HT (N08811). WPNIC is alloy 800 (N08800).
Solution annealing restores the coarse grain structure that gives 800H its creep strength at high temperature, which forming would otherwise disturb.
Butt-weld fittings follow ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-43, and forged fittings follow ASME B16.11 and MSS SP-97.
Yes. Socket weld and threaded fittings are made from ASTM B564 forgings to ASME B16.11 in Class 2000 to 9000.
Butt-weld fittings from ½" to 24" NB and forged fittings from ¼" to 4" NB.
