Titanium Round Bars
Giriraj Impex is a manufacturer, stockist, supplier and exporter of titanium round bars to ASTM B348 / ASME SB348 in Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), Grade 7, Grade 12 and Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI), and Ti-6Al-4V bars to AMS 4928. We manufacture titanium round bars in the annealed condition, black or bright, together with hexagonal and square bars and billets, in random lengths or cut to length, with mill test certificates.
Titanium bars are machined into flanges, fittings and valve parts for corrosive service, high-strength fasteners, pump and propeller shafts, offshore and subsea components, and lightweight parts for aerospace, motorsport and medical use.

Grades 1, 2 and 7 also have maximum yield strength limits. Values are typical of ASTM B265 and B348; check the specification for the product form.
Grade 5 bars are also listed on the titanium Grade 5 round bars page, and background on each grade on the titanium page.
Grade 2 or Grade 5 bars?
Grade 2 commercially pure titanium bar is chosen where corrosion resistance is the priority and moderate strength is enough: flanges, fittings, valve bodies and trim, pump parts and fasteners for seawater, chlorine and chemical service. It machines and welds well.
Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) bar has a minimum tensile strength of about 895 MPa – more than twice that of Grade 2 – with a density only about 57% that of steel, giving a very high strength-to-weight ratio. It is used for high-strength fasteners, shafts, connecting rods, valve stems, offshore riser and subsea components, aerospace fittings and motorsport parts. Grade 23, the extra-low-interstitial version, has better toughness and is used for medical implants and fracture-critical parts. Grades 7 and 12 are used for parts in hot chloride and reducing-acid service.
How we manufacture titanium bars
We manufacture titanium round bars from certified billets by hot rolling or forging, followed by annealing in a controlled furnace. The surface oxide and alpha-case layer formed during hot working are removed by peeling, turning or grinding to give bright bars with close tolerance. Bars are straightened, cut to length and marked with grade and heat number. Ultrasonic testing is carried out on request, and is normally required for aerospace and critical offshore applications.
Machining titanium bars
Titanium machines well when its properties are respected. It has low thermal conductivity, so heat stays at the cutting edge; use sharp carbide tools, low cutting speeds, relatively heavy feeds and plenty of coolant. Avoid letting the tool dwell or rub, which work-hardens the surface. Titanium chips and fine swarf can burn, so they should be collected and stored safely. Grade 2 is easier to machine than Grade 5.
Corrosion resistance
Titanium bars share the corrosion resistance of all titanium products: practically immune to seawater and most chloride solutions at normal temperatures, and resistant to wet chlorine, hypochlorite, nitric acid and many organic acids. Titanium is attacked by hydrofluoric acid, fluorides, hot concentrated reducing acids and dry chlorine. For hot chloride service where crevices exist – such as under gaskets or in threaded joints – Grade 7 or 12 is preferred.
Ordering titanium round bars
Please give the grade and specification, shape and size, tolerance, condition, surface, length, quantity and any ultrasonic testing or inspection requirement. Bars are packed in wooden boxes or bundles, with bright bars wrapped, and each piece is traceable to its mill test certificate.
Applications and related products
Titanium round bars are used for flanges, fittings and valve parts, fasteners, pump and propeller shafts, offshore and subsea components, aerospace and motorsport parts, and medical devices. Matching products include titanium pipes and tubes, titanium sheets and plates, titanium flanges, titanium pipe fittings and titanium fasteners. Other bar materials are on the round bars, rods and wires page.
Frequently Asked Questions
ASTM B348 (ASME SB348) covers titanium and titanium alloy bars and billets. Ti-6Al-4V aerospace bar is often ordered to AMS 4928.
Grade 2 is commercially pure titanium with good corrosion resistance and moderate strength. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is an alloy with more than twice the strength.
AMS 4928 is an aerospace material specification for Ti-6Al-4V bars, wire, forgings and rings in the annealed condition.
Grade 23 is Ti-6Al-4V ELI (extra low interstitial), with lower oxygen and iron for better toughness, used for medical implants and fracture-critical parts.
It needs sharp tools, low speeds, heavy feeds and plenty of coolant because of its low thermal conductivity, but it machines well with the right set-up.
Yes. Titanium bars are supplied peeled, turned, ground or polished, as well as black hot-rolled or forged.
