Inconel 625 Round Bars

Inconel 625 Round Bars

Giriraj Impex is a manufacturer, stockist, supplier and exporter of Inconel 625 round bars in UNS N06625 to ASTM B446 / ASME SB446 and AMS 5666. We manufacture Inconel 625 round bars in Grade 1 (annealed) and Grade 2 (solution annealed), hot finished or cold finished, black or bright, together with hexagonal, square and forged bars, in random lengths or cut to length, with mill test certificates.

Inconel 625 bars are machined into valve stems and trim, pump shafts, fasteners, flanges and fittings, subsea connectors and wellhead parts, and aerospace and marine components that need high strength and outstanding corrosion resistance.

B446 or AMS 5666?

ASTM B446 is the industrial specification for Inconel 625 rod and bar, used for oil and gas, chemical, marine and power applications and for pressure parts under the ASME code (as SB446). AMS 5666 is the aerospace specification for annealed 625 bars, forgings and rings, with its own requirements for testing and certification. Many bars are certified to both. Please state which specification and grade the order requires.

For subsea and wellhead equipment, purchasers often add their own requirements to B446 – for example a minimum yield strength, hardness limits, grain size, ultrasonic acceptance levels and impact testing at low temperature. These are confirmed with the mill before the order is accepted, and reported on the mill test certificate together with the standard tests.

How we manufacture Inconel 625 bars

We manufacture Inconel 625 round bars from certified billets by hot rolling or forging, followed by annealing (Grade 1) or solution annealing (Grade 2). Bright bars are peeled, turned or centreless ground for close tolerance and a smooth surface. Each bar is marked with alloy, grade and heat number, and ultrasonic testing is carried out on request, as is usual for bars that will be machined into pressure-retaining or critical parts.

Machining Inconel 625

Inconel 625 is strong and work-hardens rapidly, so it is one of the more demanding alloys to machine. Use rigid machines, sharp carbide or ceramic tools with positive rake, low cutting speeds, steady feeds deep enough to cut beneath the work-hardened layer, and generous coolant. Avoid tool dwell and interrupted light cuts. Threads are preferably rolled or cut with sharp single-point tools.

Corrosion and sour service

Inconel 625 bar has the same corrosion resistance as other 625 products: excellent resistance to seawater, chlorides, pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking, and to many acids. For oil and gas equipment exposed to hydrogen sulphide, bars can be supplied to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 on request, within the hardness and condition limits the standard sets for this alloy.

Ordering Inconel 625 round bars

Please give the specification and grade, shape and size, tolerance, surface, length, quantity and any ultrasonic testing, NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 or inspection requirement. Bars are packed in wooden boxes or bundles, bright bars wrapped, and each piece is traceable to its mill test certificate.

Applications and related products

Inconel 625 round bars are used for valve stems and trim, pump shafts, fasteners, flanges and fittings machined from bar, subsea connectors and wellhead components, aerospace engine and exhaust parts, and marine hardware. Matching products include Inconel 625 pipes and tubes. Other Inconel alloys are on the Inconel round bars page and other materials on the round bars, rods and wires page.

Frequently Asked Questions

ASTM B446 (ASME SB446) covers Inconel 625 rod and bar for industrial use, and AMS 5666 applies to 625 bar for aerospace use.

Grade 1 is annealed, with higher strength for service up to about 595 °C; Grade 2 is solution annealed for better creep strength above that temperature.

It is strong and work-hardens quickly, so it needs rigid set-ups, sharp tools, low speeds and steady feeds, but machines well with the right technique.

Yes. Inconel 625 bars can be supplied to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 on request.

The Werkstoff number of Inconel 625 is 2.4856.

Yes. Inconel 625 bars are supplied in round, hexagonal, square and flat shapes, and as forged bars.
